San Silverio Shrine Reply

The last time I was at the shrine in Dover Plains New York was 1975 and it was all Mazzella's and Conte's and Scotti's and Vitello's ect ect....

My extended family! LOL!!!

So I ate my Aunt Rose Mazzella Conte's Ravioli which was just as good as my Mom's and enjoyed all the fun we had at the picnic Pavilion.

I was sitting at a table near the First Aid House and I noticed an elderly couple who seemed out of place with us and I never seen them before.

I struck up a conversation with them and I asked them why they were here.

They said they were members!

I asked them if they were Italian and they said they were of Swedish Heritage.

I became quite confused.

I told them that this was a place for Italian-Americans from the Island of Ponza, Italy to celebrate Saint Silverius. They said they knew that.

I asked them how they found out about this shrine and they said they were driving by and liked it and joined.

They said they were glad they found TSSS.

They said they loved Italian food and people, so they joined.

I asked them "Don't you Swedish-Americans have a place like this?".

They said no.

I looked at them with some suspicions and decided they were a harmless old couple, so I told them to have fun here.

So everyone had a feast and they drank and they danced and then I competed it the Greased Pig Contest and lost and then I went down to the Ten Mile River to look for frogs.

I sure wished I had been able to hold that Greased Pig cause the guy who did won the Pig had it slaughtered.

Had I won the Pig, he would have been my pet! LOL!!!!

By the way........

If you ever compete in a Greased Pig Contest, wear foam earplugs used at Gun Ranges.

When that pig squeals in your ears while you try to hold him, the noise is quite loud and painful!

And use that hand degreaser they sell at auto stores, cause that grease is very sticky!
