Everyone called him Uncle Paul. In the early 90's he came down with Adenocarcinoma and he was terminally ill.

Nothing would work to save him.

I hadn't visited his house in Yonkers for almost 20 years because he yelled at me about my use of foul language while I was repairing an outboard engine.

I almost quit talking to him. Now it was time to say Farewell.

I surprised him during Spaghetti dinner. I watched him finish and then we went into his living room.

Aunt Louise went to another room and left us alone for the last time.

Uncle Paul then told me that I was his favorite Nephew.

You could have knocked me over with a feather, I was shocked!

I accused him of lying. I said his favorite nephew was Sammy or some other nephew. He said no. He said I may not be the richest, but I was the smartest, cause I could create and invent things. I could think for myself and was independent to the point of defiance. I speak the truth and tell it like I see it. I tell it like it is....

He said that he wished he had a Son just like me!

Then he gave me a final warning: He said: "Your Father, Your Mother, Your sisters, Your Uncles and Aunts and Cousins, DON"T trust them!"

"They are all greedy liars and full of shit! Everything they say is Bullshit and don't you ever believe them. They aren't trustworthy. They drink and use drugs and act weird."

"Mark, I've seen you suffer the loss of friendship with your cousins because of your wicked Uncle Ercito. They are not worth it. They are nothing but trouble and liars!"

I agreed. We spoke some more about family and he had to go to sleep.

He invited me back, but he died soon thereafter.

I told him, "Uncle Paul, I love you! I don't want you to die!"

He said, "I have no choice and in a few years you will join me! You are not immortal either!"

And so he died. I went to his funeral out of great respect for him.

Mom was at his casket and yelled out, "He died so young!"

So, I said "No Ma! 77 years old is elderly and he has had a wonderful life."

He was a good egg. Mom cried that she is all alone.

I said you still have your husband Ivio and your children and Grandkids.

Thank Jehovah that he lived his life and died happy.
